Speaking at the seminar former Union Minister and BJP Rajya Sabha member Dr. Arun Shourie said that China is a potent threat and greater danger to India than Pakistan. “China has consistently extended its boundaries over the years. It started claiming that Akshai Chin was part of China. Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru ignored the claim though Sardar Patel warned him. China kept on repeating it and finally grabbed Akshai Chin. Now, it is part of China”. The MP made this reference to warn the government against the repeated claims by China that Arunachal Pradesh was part of it. Mr. Shourie, who had been following China since long, found a method in China's operations. He explained how the country was building upon their economic and military might “China has full nuclear and military cooperation with Pakistan. It has a military pact with Bangladesh and has absolute command over Myanmar. This apart, China is spending huge money in setting up economic zones in Africa, trade and economic zones in Mauritus and also Zambia”.

Mr. Shourie argued that the greatest weakness of India is that it is not being able to build up a united force on crucial national and international issues. “About 169 out of the 600-odd districts in the country are hit by Maoist violence. Some hundred modules of ISI are working here”. Instead of merely expressing concern over Chinese incursions in Arunachal Pradesh, the government should act decisively.
