Ladies Business Forum The Calcutta Chamber of Commerce,
set up way back in 1830, is the oldest business body in Asia.
During the 175 years of its passage, the Chamber has largely
contributed to the growth and development of trade, commerce
and industry in this region of the country.
The Chamber has a ladies wing styled as “Ladies Business
Forum (LBF) “where members are industrialists, professionals,
exporters, educationists and the like from all over the Eastern
Region.
The prime objective of the Forum is to promote entrepreneurship
and managerial excellence among women. It also acts as a catalyst
for the social and economic advancement of women. The programmes
held are designed to bring awareness among women in their
social and economic life. Delegations abroad also are sponsored
to promote internationalism and fellowship among women. LBF
is consulted by the Government on matters relating to women
entrepreneurship and other related issues. The activities
of LBF include :
- Regular programmes directed at improving entrepreneurial
skills.
- Providing forum for exchange of ideas between men of public
life, academicians, intelligentsia by organising workshops,
symposiums, seminars, etc. on subjects of importance.
- Organising study tours.
- Training programmes in areas like entrepreneurship development,
export, taxation, management, industrial relations etc.
- Visits to factories, institutions, laboratories, etc.
- Taking business delegations abroad and receiving foreign
visitors.
- Organising community development programmes.
LBF is also planning to institute
2 awards to recognise outstanding work in the area of:
- Woman entrepreneur / woman professional.
- Woman social worker / Social welfare institution for women.
