Talk & Interactive Session with
HIGH RANKING BUSINESS DELEGATION FROM THE STATE OF NORTHRHINE-WESTPHALIA, GERMANY

A delegation from Germany that toured major Indian cities had also paid a visit to Kolkata to scout for business opportunities and as well as look for joint venture partners in the sectors of IT, Steel, Automobiles, Chemicals and Machinery. In his speech, the German Consul General Mr. Gunter Wehrmann, Chief Guest, urged to further move forward bilateral trade ties between India and Germany. He also ascertained that considering cordial bilateral relations, there is a scope to improve the commercial scenario of Bengal. He welcomed investment prospects in the state from the visiting delegation. Mr. Gunter Wehrmann was of opinion that Kolkata had always been in the world map having an international reputation with its 'highly skilled work force'.

Mr. Enrich Wulf-Christian, Managing Director of the international department of the Dortmund Chamber of Commerce & Industry remarked, "the Germans have started realising that it is better to do business in India than China as Beijing does not meet the obligations of Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) under the World Trade Organisation." Mr. Wulf-Christian informed that German already has strong presence in India in the mining and heavy engineering sector. Indo-German trade has reached Euro 10 billion in December 2006, the end of German Financial year, a growth of 43% over the figure for 2005. He said that a considerable section of English speaking population, coupled with the presence of democracy and press freedom were important towards developing a long-term business relationship.

Dr. Satish Batra of Horizon GMBH who was present at the session, commented positively on the wings of industrial metamorphosis that Bengal is riding on at present.
