Accent On Excellence


Article 51A of the Indian Constitution enjoins it as the fundamental duty of every citizen to "strive towards excellence in all spheres".

At the very inception of the Calcutta Chamber of Commerce as the country's oldest business forum, the Founding Fathers solemnly pledged themselves to social responsibility of business to improve quality of life. Pursuant to that original commitment, the Chamber has as a recent endeavour established endowments to :

  • Recognize outstanding performance in the field of sports and games with annual J.N. Award of Rs.1,00,000/- under proper citation.
  • Recognize outstanding performance in the field of Business with presentation of "Young Entrepreneur Award" carrying cash award of Rs. 1,00,000 and appropriate citation.
  • Pay tribute to towering talent as role-model of Indian womanhood with presentation of "Prabha Khaitan Puraskar" carrying cash award of Rs. 1,00,000 with appropriate citation.

Joharmal Nandkishore Award


Object

The J.N. Endowment acted from acute consciousness of the need for positive measures as correctives to India's embarrassing backwardness in the field of sports and to rehabilitate India's humiliating rating by the UNDP on Human Development Index. Triumph in the world of intellect and spirit and progress in science and technology also needs healthy body as shelter for active mind and creative intellect.

Public recognition of credible achievement in the field of competitive sports is essential to stimulate interest in activities to improve national health level.

Prize

Considering how the healthy body is essential to the pursuit of high ideals, Late Nand Kishore Jalan, Past President, Calcutta Chamber of Commerce and the then Trustee, J.N. Trust has funded provision towards annual award of Rs.1,00,000/- to the finest specimen of achievement and endeavour in the field of sports, atheletics, adventure, expedition, indoor and oper-air games, gymnastics.

Talent Hunt

The target is to identify cases that stand apart not only by standard of performance but also serve as examples unto others and encouragement to those who surrender to initial disappointment. The Chamber has developed a system of scouting for talent on extensive field coverage in collaboration with recognized sports control bodies and affiliates of the Sports Authority of India. Endorsement will also be considered from recognized institutions and responsible individuals capable of authoritative assessment to specific areas.


Panel of Judges

The Awardee is selected by an eminent Panel of Judges comprising distinguished sports personalities drawn on the basis of field performance and sports administration, commentary and reporting. To ensure objective and impartial assessment of claims to reward, there will be no interference with the selection process and the decision of the panel of judges would be accepted as final.

Kedarnath Bhagirathi Kanoria Award


Objective

Indian entrepreneurship is well on its path of global domination and holds the promise to aid the national economy in terms of providing employment and bringing about development in rural areas. The changed and charged environment of entrepreneurship in the country motivates many brilliant young people to opt away from fat salaries in MNCs and work in their own ventures. Successful entrepreneurs have inspired a whole new generation to look forward into the future with unbound hope. The Indian entrepreneur is all set to achieve new heights of success and growth in the years to come.

Young Entrepreneur Award aspires to honour the crème de la crème of the Young Entrepreneurs of India Origin whose courage, foresight and determination has created and sustained successful, growing business ventures. The award recognizes outstanding Youth who demonstrates excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to his business.

Award

With an aim at identifying and acknowledging an individual who has been able to surpass the obstacles in the business environment, and come out shining on top, Dr. H. P. Kanoria, Past President, Calcutta Chamber of Commerce and the Trustee, Shree Radhakrishna Premanand Nidhi has funded provision towards annual award of Rs.1,00,000/- .

Eligibility Criteria

The Entrepreneur must:

  • Be of India origin, with maximum age of 45 years.
  • Have demonstrated outstanding entrepreneurial qualities in growing and developing the business.
  • generate turnover of Rs. 250/- crs. in 3 years and /or Rs. 500/- crs in 5 years.

Areas Under Consideration

The Calcutta Chamber of Commerce is keen to identify outstanding entrepreneur who has demonstrated entrepreneurial attributes that makes her/him role model for emerging entrepreneurs, including innovation and making a difference under adverse situation and environments with one or more different companies.

Selection

The awardee is selected by an eminent Panel of Judges who have impeccable credentials and have excellence in their own respective fields of experience including accomplished entrepreneurs and business leaders. To ensure objective and impartial assessment of claims to reward, there will be no interference with the selection process and the decision of the panel of judges would be accepted as final.

Prabha Khaitan Puraskar


Eligibility

Only women are eligible for nomination, apart from which, there is no bar whatsoever, to age, qualification, caste or religion. Even foreigners and non-resident Indians are eligible for nomination.

However, in the unfortunate event of a nominee's death while her work is under consideration of the panel, she will be eligible for the PURASKAR POSTHUMOUSLY.

Areas Under Consideration

The Calcutta Chamber of Commerce is keen to identify very exceptional and successful woman role-model of the year, giving the first and foremost priority to lofty human values found in the trailblazing achievement by a woman in any field of human endeavour.

Selection

Selection will be meticulously carried out by a panel of judges comprising of respected senior citizens and its decision will be final and binding.
